In short

Online math tutoring works as well as in person for most students from about 5th grade up, and often better for advanced math, because the shared whiteboard, the notes and the problem sets are all in one place. In person is worth the drive for younger students, for students who struggle to focus on a screen, and for families who want a visible routine. At Yani's Tutoring both cost the same, and most families end up mixing them.

When Online Is The Better Choice

  • Algebra, Geometry, Precalculus and College Algebra. The shared whiteboard saves every step, and the notes arrive in your inbox afterward.
  • Busy seasons. Sports, travel and sick days do not cost the slot.
  • Students outside my in-person range. Anywhere in Florida or beyond, same teacher, same 50 minutes.

When In Person Is Worth The Drive

  • Elementary students, especially for the first few sessions, when hands, pictures and real objects come before numbers.
  • Students who find screens distracting or who shut down on video.
  • Families who want the routine to be visible: a time, a place, a tutor at the table.

What Online Sessions Look Like

A live video call plus a shared digital whiteboard your child writes on too. I model a problem fully, then your child drives while I ask the questions the test will ask. Everything we write is saved and sent after the session, which is something an in-person session cannot do as neatly.

How Families Mix The Two

The most common pattern is in person during the school year and online for travel weeks, exam weeks and summer. The slot stays the same, the price stays the same, and nothing is lost in the switch.

Does online cost less?

No. Both are $70 per 50-minute session. The difference is the drive, not the teaching.

What equipment does my child need?

A laptop or tablet with a camera, a quiet spot and the class materials. A stylus or touchscreen helps for geometry.
