In the School District of Palm Beach County, first-semester exams land in the days before winter break, which runs from December 21, 2026 through January 1, 2027 this school year. The plan that works is three weeks: week one rebuilds the unit list and finds the weak units, week two is mixed practice, week three is timed practice and the error list. New students can start with a $60 Midterm Special session through December 31, 2026.
When Are Midterms?
Palm Beach County public schools finish the first semester before winter break, which this year runs December 21, 2026 through January 1, 2027. Exact exam days vary by school and by course, so check the school's calendar and your child's teacher. Private schools run their own calendars, usually in the same window.
Week One: Find The Weak Units
- List every unit the exam covers, from the syllabus or the teacher's review guide.
- Pull the graded tests for each unit and sort them: solid, shaky, lost.
- Start with the shaky units. They are the cheapest points to recover; the lost units come second.
Week Two: Mixed Practice
Midterms mix units, and students who practiced one unit at a time get surprised by the switch. Work short sets that jump between units, write every step, and keep a one-page error list: the mistake, the fix, the check that catches it next time.
Week Three: Timed Practice
Two or three timed sets in exam conditions, no notes, a calculator only if the exam allows one. After each set, review the error list first, then the new mistakes. The last two days are light: the error list, the formula sheet and sleep.
Where Tutoring Fits
One session in week one sets the plan and finds the real gaps fast, which is the step most students get wrong on their own. A session in week three checks the timed sets and the error list. Many families book the Weekly Package for the exam month. New students can use the Midterm Special for that first session, $60 through December 31, 2026.
