In short

Elementary math tutoring is one-on-one help with the foundations: place value, addition and subtraction with regrouping, multiplication and division facts, fractions, decimals and word problems. At Yani's Tutoring it is a 50-minute session with a certified math teacher, in person around West Palm Beach or online, built around your child's actual classwork so homework stops being a fight.

What we cover

What Sessions Cover

Taught from your child's actual class, in the order the class moves.

  • Place value, addition and subtraction with regrouping
  • Multiplication and division facts, and when to use each
  • Fractions, decimals and how they relate
  • Word problems: reading them, drawing them, solving them
  • Homework support that teaches the method, not just the answer
  • Confidence for the Florida FAST math tests in grades 3 to 5
How we work

How We Work

  1. We start where the gap starts

Most elementary struggles trace back to one missing piece, usually place value or fractions. I find it first.

  2. Hands, pictures, then numbers

Younger students see the math before they write it. Drawings, number lines and real objects come before the algorithm.

  3. Parents get a plain summary

After each session you know what we worked on and what to practice this week.

Questions

Questions About Elementary Math

What grades count as elementary math tutoring?

Grades 2 through 5. Younger students who are ready to sit for a focused session are welcome too; we talk about it on the free consult.

How often should an elementary student meet with a tutor?

Once a week is the usual rhythm. It is enough to stay ahead of the class and build facts and habits without crowding out playtime. Families often add a second session before the FAST test window.

Do you use the same methods as my child's school?

Yes. I teach the method the class teaches so what we practice is what gets graded, and I only add a second strategy when the first one is not landing.

Can elementary sessions be online?

They can, and many are. Younger students do best online with a parent nearby for the first session or two and a tablet or touchscreen for writing.
